Abstract:
Traditionally, TVET curriculums have focused on a combination of knowledge, technical skills, and generic skills. However, the industrial landscape is evolving. Today, there’s a growing demand for a new kind of workforce: one competent in green skills. In a unique effort promoting sustainable development through education and green skill, Government ITI Berhampur has empowered its trainees to design and fabricate beautiful sculptures from waste materials generated in the institute’s workshops during training practice. Waste materials are being given a new life by transforming it into aesthetically pleasing sculptures. This initiative not only enhances hands-on skills like fitting, welding, painting, but the finished products are also in high demand by interior decorators, creating a potential income stream for the trainees. This program effectively combines environmental consciousness aligning with sustainable development goals of United Nations turning the trainees into sustainability warriors while transforming the campus into an Educational Wonderland which has etched its name in the illustrious Asia Book of Records. This innovative approach is fostering a keen interest among students in careers with the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector. This is leading to a rise in female participation, increased employability with better salaries, a minimized skill gap and attracts more students for admissions, ensuring a future generation equipped for the green economy.
